The Vallombrosa Raphael (XVI century)A variant of the The Madonna of the Goldfinch in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, this painting was transferred from panel to canvas following the suppression of the monastery of Vallombrosa in 1808. In 1835 it was acquired by the Verity Family, who presented it to Downside Abbey in 1995.

The Visitation of Mary to ElizabethThe Visitation is described by St Luke (Ch I, v39ff) who presents it as an integral part of the Christmas story. This decoration of the doors of the Great Reliquary at Downside Abbey was executed by Nathaniel Westlake (1833-1921), the painter and stained-glass artist.
